THE CLUTHA LEADER BIG RIVER FESTIVAL Saturday the 17th March 2012
THE CLUTHA LEADER BIG RIVER FESTIVAL 2012 is planned for Saturday the 17th March 2012 2pm to 6.00pm at the South Otago A&P Showgrounds, Glasgow Street Balclutha.
The theme for 2012 is HERITAGE and the festival will include the following events.
- THE SAM PERKINS RUN: (Cavalcade) will be staged on festival day to celebrate the 150year Jubilee of gold rushes in Otago. Cavalcade riders will start at 7:00am from the Mount Stuart Reserve and walkers at 9am from the Hillend Hall to connect with the raft race start at Beggs beach.
Some cavalcade participants also plan to take part in the Kai Point Coal Big River Raft race in heritage themed rafts.

- KAI POINT COAL Co RAFT RACE: Starting from Beggs beach at 2pm the rafts will finish on the Clutha river bank just southeast of the Balclutha road bridge. Click here for raft race information and Click here for raft race entry forms.
- THE KEN MILNE CLASSIC : 2pm start. This iconic event includes a established triathlon and duathlon and new prize category for secondary school students. Click here for course details, and entry form.
- FUTURE OLYMPIANS & MINI OLYMPIANS; 2.00pm - 4.00pm at the Show Grounds, Balclutha • Future Olympians: Year 5 & 6 and Year 7 & 8
• Mini Olympians: Under 5’s, Year 1 & 2, Year 3 & 4• Teams of 4, $5 per team
• Limited number of spaces available
• 6 fun stations to test brains and brawn
• Trophies and prizes for the winning team in each category
• Spot prizes up for grabs

- Folk Music performance by Folk music Icon Phil Garland.
- ENTERTAINMENT - ROCK BAND H.C. FOLK SINGER PHIL GARLAND
- GOOD VARIETY OF REFRESHMENTS, FOOD & MARKET STALLS
All activities will centre around the area of the riverbank just to the south and east of the Balclutha road bridge, the A&P Showgrounds and the Clutha Rugby Clubrooms.
