Clutha Country residents have access to a wide range of health services.

Clutha Health First is a purpose built secondary care hospital facility in Balclutha, built in the late 1990s offering good quality healthcare provided by a dedicated healthcare team of nurses, hospital physicians and general practitioners.  The hospital provides a range of on-site services including aged care services, patient rehabilitation, maternity services, minor surgery (via the Mobile Surgical Services Bus), x-ray and laboratory services, palliative and emergency care.

Specialists and consultants hold regular outpatient clinics at Clutha Health First, minimizing the need to travel.

Most large towns in Clutha Country have community health centres offering a range of primary and community health services including general practice services, district nursing, and aged care services.

Mental Health, Plunket and Karitane services are also readily available across the region.

Education

Clutha Country has kindergartens, primary and secondary schools to offer a full range of education.

All major towns have pre-primary nursery schools and play-centres, and there are primary schools, area schools and high schools throughout the district.

Telford Rural Polytechnic offers excellent vocational training in land-based subjects – agriculture, forestry, equine studies, and bee-keeping.
